Looking for a weekend trip in Sarasota?

Whether you’re local or just passing through, Sarasota is filled with beautiful nature scenes that are perfect for a quick weekend getaway. These day trips are perfect for the family, friends, or even a romantic trip for just you two! The Honda Civic, with its fuel efficiency and outstanding safety features makes it the perfect car to get you where you need to go. We decided to take out a brand new 2018 Civic and make the best of a beautiful weekend! Here’s what we found:

Day 1:

Today, drive a little further south and enjoy the beauty of the Osprey area.

Oscar Scherer State Park is only a fifteen minute drive (7.3 miles) from our location at 7333 South Tamiami Trail. The park is best known for its scrubby flatwoods that house the Florida scrub-jays, a species you can only find in Florida. The best time to view wildlife are early in the morning or later in the afternoon. However, if you prefer something a little more active, there is the option to canoe, fish, swim, hike, camp, kayak, cookout and picnic. It only costs $5 to access with a 2-8 person car and it costs $15 per hour for a kayak and canoe rental.

Casey Key, most known locally for being the home of Stephen King, has some of the most beautiful beaches in Sarasota. After an early morning of kayaking and picnicking at Oscar Scherer State Park, an afternoon soaking in sunny rays on the beach is the perfect way to relax. Only about eight minutes (2.5 miles) from the park, Casey Key is the perfect stop on this day of adventure.

Historic Spanish Point is a quick seven minute (3.1 miles) from Casey Key. Enjoy a little intellectual stimulation as you learn about the history of the region. The museum divides the history into four key points: Prehistory, Pioneer, Palmer, and Plants. Only $12 for adult admission and a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the Sarasota area!

Total Miles Driven: 16.8 miles

Gas Used: The 2018 Honda Civic gets an impressive 40 hwy mpg and 31 city mpg. The Civic can hold 12.4 gallons of gas, getting around 434 miles per tank of gas. So this trip would only use up about 4% of your full tank! Talk about a fuel efficient day of fun!

Day 2:

Today is a day for enjoying more of the beauty Sarasota has to offer!

Myakka State Park known for the instagrammable canopy walk, Myakka State Park is one of the oldest and largest state parks in Florida. Only twenty one minutes (14.6 miles) from Wilde Honda Sarasota, this park offers all the best of the outdoors. Many enjoy boating, freshwater fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and viewing local wildlife like alligators. Scenic tours of sections of the 58 square mile Myakka River are offered on the world’s two largest airboats daily. Only $6.00 entrance fee per vehicle!

Myakka Outpost is only about twelve minutes (3.1 miles) from the Myakka State Park entrance. Sitting right on the Myakka River, this eatery inside the park offers a variety of libations from coffee and wine to salads, fries, and seafood!

Crowley Museum and Nature Museum is only fifteen minutes (5 miles) from the Myakka Outpost. For only a $5 admission you can learn all about the history of the pioneer era in the region. Notable Mentions:

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art exemplifies the history and culture of Sarasota in a sweeping and grandiose fashion. Established in 1927, the collection was donated to the public by the Ringling family, and now contains over 10,000 unique pieces of art from across the world. Additionally, it boasts a museum of the Ringling Circus show, and a very large botanical garden that houses native and non-native plant species. At the back of the property is the Ringling mansion, sitting right on the water. It is one of our personal favorite sunset spots! Ticket information is located here.
